The Ballet Team is a South Coast NSW based orchestral ballet company.

 

For nearly 10 years, The Ballet Team have staged productions that showcase the region’s talent; fostering the next generation of dance professionals and making classical ballet accessible to a diverse audience.

 

In 2016 The Ballet Team staged the Illawarra’s first fully locally produced and starring adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s “The  Nutcracker” at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre. Since then the company has delighted audiences with a range of unique productions, all featuring a live orchestra and local dancers.

 

In 2018 the company commissioned an adaptation of “Peter Pan”, written by Will Yaxley and choreographed by Tori Van Opstal. Since then The Ballet Team has continued to champion the creation of original ballets. In 2024 the company picked up two CAT Award nominations in recognition of this work for its production of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" including "Best Dance Production" and "Best Original Work" for the music composition, with choreography by Meryl Dalton and music and story by Ryley Gillen.
